Greenwood Genetic Center Appoints Dr. Steve Skinner as New Director

Greenwood, S.C. (December 17, 2010) – The Board of Directors of the Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC) announced this week that Dr. Steven A. Skinner has been promoted to Director of the Center. Dr. Roger Stevenson, co-founder of GGC and current Director, said that Skinner will assume the responsibilities of the Office of Director effective January 1, 2011. Dr. Stevenson will remain on the clinical and research faculty of GGC and will shift his focus to research on the genetic causes of intellectual disabilities and birth defects.


Greenwood Genetic Center’s Saul selected for Riley Institute Leadership Program

Columbia, S.C. – Dr. Robert A. Saul, Senior Clinical Geneticist at the Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC), has been accepted to the Upstate Diversity Leaders Initiative through Furman University’s Riley Institute. Chosen by nomination and application, participants in the Diversity Leadership Initiative (DLI) are statewide leaders from all demographic groups and sectors—corporate, non-profit, faith-based, education and public officials—who build leadership skills while also examining and pursuing solutions to challenges and opportunities most pressing to our communities.


Dinner Honors Legacy of Dr. Les Meyer and Celebrates Creation of Senior Genetics Scholar at the Greenwood Genetic Center

Greenville, S.C. – The Board of Directors of the Greenwood Genetic Center announced contributions of $150,000 toward the creation of the Leslie C. Meyer Senior Genetics Scholar Program at a dinner honoring the legacy of the late Greenville physician last night at the Poinsett Club. Dr. Meyer, a noted Greenville orthopedic surgeon, humanitarian and founder of the Meyer Center for Special Children, had a particular interest in genetic disorders of the skeleton.
