Debbie is a registered nurse whose professional career has consisted of nursing in a variety of specialized fields including intensive care, renal dialysis, public health, childbirth education, primary care and medical / vocational case management. Debbie joined the Greenwood Genetic Center in 1990 and has served as the Genetic Coordinator Supervisor since 2006. She coordinates genetics clinics that serve clients of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs in the Coastal region including Berkeley, Beaufort, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper counties, and the residential Coastal Center.

Lucy's Story

When our daughter Lucy had a metabolic crisis at 7 days old, we were shocked and devastated to find out that she was born with a rare genetic disorder (MSUD). Her newborn screening results did not make it back in time to prevent the crisis, and no one at our local hospital was familiar with the disease. They did not know how to treat her.
