Labdon, Alyssa

Alyssa joined GGC’s Division of Education in 2023. She is a genetics instructor who travels across the state of South Carolina educating students on the many interesting concepts in genetics. Alyssa teaches lessons in the classroom, on the Gene Machine Mobile Science Lab, and at GGC’s Genetic Education Center. Her main goal is to create a fun, intriguing, and safe environment for students to learn about STEM and to gain an interest in the field of genetics.

Lucy's Story

When our daughter Lucy had a metabolic crisis at 7 days old, we were shocked and devastated to find out that she was born with a rare genetic disorder (MSUD). Her newborn screening results did not make it back in time to prevent the crisis, and no one at our local hospital was familiar with the disease. They did not know how to treat her.
