What is folic acid?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Folic acid is a B vitamin. When you take folic acid before and early in pregnancy, it dramatically lowers the risk of birth defects of the brain and spine known as neural tube defects (NTDs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why should I take folic acid?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you are of childbearing age and could possibly become pregnant, you should take folic acid. These birth defects occur very early in pregnancy, often before you know that you\u2019re pregnant.<\/p>\n\n\n
