Greenwood, SC – Jiyong Wang, PhD, has completed a three-year fellowship in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG) at the Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC).

Prior to joining GGC, Wang earned a PhD in Microbiology from China Agricultural University in Beijing, China and worked as a postdoctoral fellow studying epigenetics at Columbia University in New York, NY.

Wang began his LGG fellowship at GGC in the summer of 2020 where he trained in the implementation and interpretation of both molecular and cytogenetic diagnostic tests, as well as the development and validation of novel assays for use in clinical settings.

Wang has accepted a position as assistant laboratory director at Carolinas Pathology Group in Charlotte, NC.

“I have learned so much from my colleagues and mentors at GGC,” said Wang. “I have really enjoyed every day at GGC over the past three years.”

GGC’s LGG training program includes intensive education in laboratory technologies, clinical genetics, and diagnostic laboratory management. Since the program began in 1989, 42 fellows and residents have completed the training and have gone on to practice clinical genetics or take leadership roles in genetics laboratories.
