Science on Tap Features Cancer Family History

January 4, 2017 – The next ‘Science on Tap’ will be held on Tuesday, January 10th at 6pm at T.W. Boons in Uptown Greenwood. Science on Tap is a community lecture series designed to share some of the scientific advances happening in Greenwood.

The January event will feature Holisa Wharton, PhD, MS, RN, CNE, Assistant Professor and Interim Dean of Nursing at Lander University. Dr. Wharton will be sharing her research on the topic ‘Dad’s Side of the Family: Family History in Promoting Health and Preventing Prostate Cancer.’ The presentation will be followed by time for discussion and questions.

Science on Tap is an initiative started and organized by the Greenwood Genetic Center. “This program
originated as a way for local scientists to share their work in an informal and accessible
way with the broader Greenwood community,” said Dr. Leta Tribble, Director of Education at the
Greenwood Genetic Center. “Family history is an important risk factor for cancer, and the paternal
side can often be overlooked. We look forward to exploring Dr. Wharton’s work which is based on her
own personal family health history.”
